The Zandu Foundation for Health Care, Ambach is awarded as Biotech-KISAN Hub for Gujarat Plains and Hills Agro-climatic Zone by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. The hub will have tinkering lab, communication cell and will run year-long training, awareness, workshops and which will act as education demonstration units to encourage grass root innovation in the young as well as women farmers.
Partner Institutes:
1. ICAR - Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research (DMAPR), Boriavi, Anand, Gujarat: The DMAPR established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants on 24 November 1992 at Boriavi, Anand, Gujarat for the quality production, development of new varieties and development of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) of medicinal and aromatic plants. The institute has established an herbal garden with about 200 species of medicinal plants and in about 6 ha, an Arboretum with about 110 species of medicinal trees/herbs.
2. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, District – Valsad, Gujarat (KVK): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Valsad is established in September, 1992 is dedicated to rural development besides its educational activities. KVK, Valsad is located at Ambheti village belongs to Kaparada block of Valsad District. The main objective of KVK is to transfer latest technologies in agriculture and allied fields to the farmers. KVK conducts various activities like training to farmers, farm women, rural youth and extension functionaries, front line demonstrations on farm testing and different extension activities.

OBJECTIVES
1. To carryout frontline demonstration of Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) at farmers’ level on cultivation, semi-processing including marketing arrangements of elite varieties of four selected medicinal plants (Mucuna pruriens, Gymnema sylvestre, Bacopa monnieri and Withania somnifera) over a total area of 60 acres as per following details:
i) Mucuna pruriens (15 acres by ZFHC, Ambach)
ii) Gymnema sylvestre (15 acres by ZFHC, Ambach)
iii) Bacopa monnieri (15 acres by ICAR-DMAPR, Boriyavi)
iv) Withania somnifera (15 acres by KVK, Valsad)
2. To create Farmers Producers Group / Organization (FPG / FPO) for marketing of the produce.
3. Buy back arrangements to be made by ZFHC for all the produce from the farmers at a reasonable price to be fixed in consultation with farmers’ group and ICAR-DMAPR.
4. To organize Farmers’ Training Programmes at Main Biotech-KISAN Hub at ZFHC as well as ICAR-DMAPR on complete agro-technology practices and GAP of the target medicinal plants in the region.
